Calculation coverage is still under review for this card. A recorded benefit does not mean every condition has been included in the estimate.
What still needs confirmation
- Fuel earns 5 MR/₹100 up to the monthly bonus cap, then 1 MR/₹100. Estimates exclude fuel convenience fees and forex charges.
- ₹0.25/MR is our comparison assumption. Promotional merchant earning, other foreign-currency categories and voucher choices are not fully modelled; renewal vouchers require confirmation.
- Priority Pass guests are chargeable; only one supplementary membership is included. Medical cover requires advance confirmation and excludes supplementary cardholders.
| Spend category | Reward rate | Reward limit |
|---|---|---|
Travel Only the qualifying merchants or payment route below Eligible overseas and online foreign-currency purchases earn 3 MR/₹40: 1.875% at our ₹0.25/MR assumption, before the 4.13% forex fee including GST. Fuel OMC fuel: 1 base + 4 bonus MR/₹100. The 5,000 bonus-MR calendar-month cap binds at ₹1,25,000 fuel spend; further eligible fuel earns 1 MR/₹100 (0.25% at our valuation). Excluded from ordinary earning: Insurance, Utilities & bills. Specific qualifying offers, if any, are listed above.
Rates apply only to the merchants and conditions described. Shared ceilings cannot be added across rows. Points and vouchers are valued at the stated redemption assumption; use the spending calculator for a combined estimate.
Fees & charges
Pay the full statement balance by the due date. Late payment attracts 5% of the eligible unpaid balance, minimum ₹300 per monthly statement, plus applicable tax. The fee calculation excludes prior fees and taxes; unpaid statements can also forfeit that cycle’s points.
Forex conversion: 3.5% + GST (4.13% at 18% GST). Fuel convenience fee: HPCL below ₹5,000 per transaction 0%; HPCL ₹5,000 or more 1%; BPCL/IOCL 1% (minimum ₹10); other OMCs 2.5% (minimum ₹10), plus applicable taxes. These transaction charges are excluded from reward estimates.
Spend milestones
| Annual spend | Benefit | Value |
|---|---|---|
| ₹20,00,000 | Renewal voucher after ₹20 lakh or more net spending in the membership year and renewal fee payment: Postcard ₹35,000, Taj ₹27,500 or Luxe ₹22,500. Maximum value shown; confirm the selected voucher before counting it. | ₹35,000 |

What we like
- +Lounge access and hotel memberships can help frequent travellers who use the eligible programmes
- +Separate fuel earning and selective RewardXcelerator promotions
- +Conditional welcome and renewal vouchers can offset part of the fee when the chosen vouchers replace spending you would make anyway
What to watch
- −₹77,880 annual fee including 18% GST, with no published spend-based waiver
- −Full repayment required; late payment incurs a delinquency fee
- −Ordinary eligible domestic earning is 0.625% at our ₹0.25/MR assumption
- −Guest charges, limited medical cover and narrower merchant acceptance need planning
- −3.5% forex fee becomes 4.13% including GST, above the 1.875% comparison value of international points
Our full review
A benefits-led charge card for frequent travellers who pay in full. Ordinary eligible spending returns 0.625% at our point valuation; fuel and selected promotions earn differently. Check guest charges, insurance limits and your renewal voucher before deciding whether the ₹77,880 annual fee works for you. New applications are paused.

Who this is for, and who should skip it
This review is most useful to an existing Indian cardholder deciding whether to renew, a frequent traveller comparing hotel and lounge benefits, or a family checking supplementary-card entitlements. It is a poor fit for someone seeking inexpensive borrowing or straightforward cashback. This is the Platinum Charge Card; the Platinum Travel Credit Card has different fees and rewards.
Amex currently pauses new applications. Its product page also says new travel-service bookings are unavailable from 7 September to 10 October 2026. Existing holders should check service availability before depending on the concierge for a new booking.
A charge card means paying the full bill
Pay the entire statement balance by its due date. You cannot carry the remainder by making a minimum payment. No preset spending limit still means each purchase is subject to Amex approval; it is not an unlimited credit line. See the Platinum Cardmember Agreement.
The 31 March 2026 charge-card MITC specifies a monthly delinquency fee of 5% of the eligible unpaid balance, minimum ₹300, plus tax. Prior fees and taxes are excluded from that fee base. For example, ₹20,000 of eligible unpaid purchases produces ₹1,000 + ₹180 GST = ₹1,180, not a 5% annual interest rate. Missing full payment can also forfeit that statement cycle’s points.
What it earns you — the maths
Membership Rewards (MR) are points, not rupees. We use ₹0.25 per MR as a comparison assumption; your redemption value can differ.
| Eligible spending | Points earned | Value at ₹0.25/MR, before charges |
|---|---|---|
| Ordinary domestic purchases | 1 MR per ₹40 | 0.625% |
| Overseas / online foreign-currency purchases | 3 MR per ₹40 | 1.875% |
| OMC fuel, within the monthly bonus cap | 1 base + 4 bonus MR per ₹100 | 1.25% |
| Fuel above that cap | 1 MR per ₹100 | 0.25% |
| Insurance and household electricity, water or gas bills | No MR | 0% |
The India benefits terms cap bonus fuel points at 5,000 MR per calendar month. That cap is reached at ₹1,25,000 of eligible fuel spending; base fuel points continue afterwards. For ₹5,000 monthly fuel spending, 250 MR/month means ₹750 of annual comparison value. At ₹1,50,000/month, 1,500 base + 5,000 bonus MR means ₹19,500/year. Bonus posting can take up to 90 days.
These are gross rewards. The MITC charges HPCL transactions below ₹5,000 at 0%; at ₹5,000 or more, 1%. BPCL/IOCL charge 1%, minimum ₹10; other OMCs charge 2.5%, minimum ₹10, plus applicable taxes. A single ₹5,000 HPCL transaction therefore costs ₹59 including GST against ₹62.50 of assumed reward value. The transaction size matters.
Foreign-currency conversion costs 3.5% + GST = 4.13%. On a ₹40,000 converted purchase, 3,000 MR is worth ₹750 at our assumption, while the conversion fee is ₹1,652: ₹902 more in fees than reward value, before other costs. The 3X headline alone does not make this a low-cost overseas card.
These are total monthly budgets, not necessarily amounts charged entirely to this card. They repeat for a full year, with card bills paid in full. UPI is separate from the other categories; a non-RuPay card earns nothing on that part. No specific shopping app, bill-payment channel or travel portal is assumed. Select those in the calculator if you use them. Annual reward value is expressed in rupees, not in points.
| Profile | Monthly budget | Annual reward value (₹) | First-year net value | Renewal-year net value |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Everyday spender | ₹35,000 | ₹2,100 (8,400 MR/year) | ₹-75,780 | ₹-75,780 |
| Online-first shopper | ₹55,000 | ₹3,600 (14,400 MR/year) | ₹-74,280 | ₹-74,280 |
| Frequent traveller (domestic travel) | ₹1,10,000 | ₹6,825 (27,300 MR/year) | ₹-71,055 | ₹-71,055 |
Reading the table: a negative net value is a cost. First year = rewards + eligible first-year milestones − joining fee including GST. Renewal year = rewards + eligible annual milestones − renewal fee including GST, with a modelled spend waiver where earned. Welcome offers are excluded until their conditions are confirmed. Milestone vouchers are assumed usable at face value; reduce their value if you would not use them.
- Everyday spender, renewal year: ₹2,100 reward value + ₹0 milestones − ₹77,880 fee = ₹-75,780.
- Online-first shopper, renewal year: ₹3,600 reward value + ₹0 milestones − ₹77,880 fee = ₹-74,280.
- Frequent traveller (domestic travel), renewal year: ₹6,825 reward value + ₹0 milestones − ₹77,880 fee = ₹-71,055.
The monthly splits, in the order groceries / online shopping / dining / fuel / travel / bills / UPI, are:
- Everyday spender: ₹9,000 / ₹7,000 / ₹4,000 / ₹3,000 / ₹2,000 / ₹4,000 / ₹6,000.
- Online-first shopper: ₹8,000 / ₹22,000 / ₹8,000 / ₹3,000 / ₹4,000 / ₹5,000 / ₹5,000.
- Frequent traveller: ₹12,000 / ₹15,000 / ₹12,000 / ₹6,000 / ₹40,000 / ₹8,000 / ₹17,000.
Points are converted at the comparison values, which can differ from cash redemption. These estimates exclude redemption fees, transaction rounding, refunds, financing costs and benefits such as lounges or insurance. Merchant exclusions and transaction timing can change the result.
Provisional calculation: some earning conditions or ceilings for this card remain under review. The figures are a comparison estimate, not a complete forecast or a guaranteed saving.
The frequent-traveller example: points versus rupee value
₹6,825 means 27,300 MR per year, valued at ₹0.25/MR. It is not 6,825 points. The ₹1,10,000 monthly figure is a household budget, including UPI paid separately from this Amex card.
| Part of the monthly budget | Monthly amount | Estimated MR per month |
|---|---|---|
| Groceries, shopping, dining and domestic travel at the ordinary rate | ₹79,000 | 1,975 |
| Eligible fuel | ₹6,000 | 300 |
| Excluded utility bills | ₹8,000 | 0 |
| UPI paid separately, not through this Amex card | ₹17,000 | 0 |
| Total household budget | ₹1,10,000 | 2,275 |
2,275 MR/month × 12 = 27,300 MR/year; × ₹0.25 = ₹6,825/year. This assumes the domestic travel purchases earn the ordinary rate, with no promotional merchant or booking route.
If the entire ₹1,10,000/month were eligible ordinary domestic purchases charged to this card, the estimate would be 33,000 MR/year, worth ₹8,250 at the same valuation. That is a different spending mix.
If only the ₹40,000/month travel portion instead qualified for 3X overseas earning, the original mixed budget would earn 51,300 MR/year, valued at ₹12,825 before charges. That travel spend would also incur approximately ₹19,824/year in forex fees including GST, separate from the annual card fee. Actual points depend on transaction rounding and eligibility.
The examples above exclude fuel convenience fees and foreign-currency charges. They do not assume promotional merchants or price lounge visits as cash savings.
Three different ways to earn accelerated points
RewardXcelerator: the currently linked terms run through 31 January 2027. Qualifying merchants offer 10X or 20X total points: 1 base + 9 bonus, or 1 base + 19 bonus. A qualifying ₹40,000 purchase earns 10,000 or 20,000 MR, worth ₹2,500 or ₹5,000 at our assumption. These are 6.25% or 12.5%, not universal cashback rates. Use participating official websites/stores; EMI and wallet payments do not qualify, and aggregator payments may not receive bonuses. Supplementary spending qualifies. Mercedes-Benz has special minimum-spend and cap rules, so the headline “unlimited” is not universal. Check the merchant’s current conditions before paying.
Reward Multiplier: Amex’s closure notice ends this separate programme from 30 September 2026. Its Platinum 5X select-brand route should not be projected across a future full year.
ShopWise: the same notice says eligible e-voucher earning continues independently. Check the selected voucher’s earning, purchase fees, restrictions and expiry. Neither a ShopWise purchase nor RewardXcelerator should be assumed to stack with another multiplier.
Our annual calculator does not model these dated promotions or every foreign-currency category. Keep its estimate separate from a confirmed merchant-specific calculation.
The fee and renewal decision
The standard joining fee is ₹66,000 + GST = ₹77,880. The standard renewal fee is ₹66,000 + GST = ₹77,880. No published spend-based waiver is recorded. A welcome voucher is a restricted benefit, not an automatic refund of the fee or GST. Compare the first-year cost separately from the cost of renewal. Check your own offer if it says lifetime free or first year free.
Amex’s card catalogue advertises welcome choices worth up to ₹60,000. The product footnote requires fee payment and ₹50,000 net spending on the basic card in the first two months. Confirm the offer attached to your account; do not treat every voucher choice as ₹60,000 cash.
The renewal terms require ₹20 lakh or more net spending in the membership year, combining primary and supplementary cards, plus payment of the renewal fee. The benefit goes to the primary member. The voucher choices have different values:
| Renewal choice | Published voucher value | ₹77,880 fee less face value, before rewards |
|---|---|---|
| Postcard | ₹35,000 | ₹42,880 |
| Taj | ₹27,500 | ₹50,380 |
| Luxe | ₹22,500 | ₹55,380 |
Instructions arrive within 90 days of renewal-fee payment. Vouchers are valid for 360 days after generation, with brand restrictions; the choice cannot be changed after generation. Treat a voucher as worth less than face value if it causes extra spending. Our default estimates exclude this unconfirmed benefit. Welcome and renewal benefits belong to different years.
Lounge access: what a family should check
The fee includes up to four supplementary cards; further supplementary cards carry the published ₹10,000 fee plus tax. This does not mean four Priority Pass memberships or identical insurance benefits. Charge-card fee terms.
| Programme | Practical rule for an India-issued Platinum |
|---|---|
| Priority Pass outside India | Primary member plus one enrolled supplementary member receive complimentary member visits. Accompanying guests cost US$35 each per visit under Amex’s published terms. |
| Priority Pass within India | US$35 per member or guest per visit. Use the eligible domestic partner access route instead, after checking the lounge. |
| Centurion Lounges | Present the eligible card, same-day boarding pass and ID. Entry timing, capacity and guest charges vary; guests must travel on the same flight. |
| Delta Sky Club | Eligible same-day Delta itinerary required; Delta Main Basic / Basic Economy is excluded. Guest access follows Delta’s current paid-entry rules. |
| Lufthansa | The India Lounge Finder says this access ends 1 October 2026. |
Sources: India Priority Pass rules and the “Terms & Conditions” dialog in the India Platinum Lounge Finder. Check the specific terminal, guest policy and current listing before travelling. The broad lounge count does not promise free family entry everywhere. Some domestic-partner text in the finder refers to Centurion despite the Platinum selection; we do not infer a universal domestic guest allowance from that inconsistent text.
Insurance: check who and what is covered
| Cover | Published limits and action needed |
|---|---|
| Air-accident death | Up to ₹5 crore for the primary member; air ticket must be purchased on this card. |
| Overseas medical | Primary member only; US$50,000 for the first seven days of a trip. Register with ICICI Lombard and obtain written confirmation before departure. Supplementary members are excluded from complimentary cover. |
| Purchase protection | Up to ₹5 lakh for eligible card purchases within 90 days, against specified fire/burglary/natural-calamity events at the registered residence in India. |
The medical conditions specify at most five trips and one claim a year, maximum age 60, minimum 24-hour hospitalisation, a US$100 deductible and exclusion of pre-existing illness/injury. This is not comprehensive family travel insurance. The product page supplies the air-ticket condition.
Purchase-protection exclusions include appliance breakdown and valuables such as jewellery and watches; an unoccupied home for ten consecutive days can also invalidate burglary cover unless the insurer’s conditions are satisfied. Do not assume a watch earning promotional points is thereby insured.
The certificate and master policy govern actual claims. Obtain the current certificate to check covered travellers, trip dates and exclusions; our review does not establish anyone’s personal coverage.
Hotel benefits need enrolment and a qualifying booking
Enrol before relying on hotel status. The current Taj Epicure Plus page explicitly excludes the complimentary night, meal-for-two and spa vouchers found in other Epicure packages; its listed benefit runs through 31 December 2026. Amex’s Accor enrolment page should be checked for the actual account package instead of assuming a retail membership’s free nights.
Fine Hotels & Resorts upgrades depend on availability. The Hotel Collection needs a qualifying two-night booking. Credits are restricted benefits; the advertised hotel-benefit value is not a cash refund. See the booking conditions and the current travel-booking interruption above.
Alternatives
Axis Atlas can suit qualifying travel spending with a lower fee. HDFC Infinia is another premium comparison if invited and eligible. Compare the routes you actually use and the fee after GST.
How we verified this
We checked Amex India product, legal, programme and benefit terms on 10 September 2026, including the current RewardXcelerator PDF. An older PDF ends in January 2026; the currently linked version ends in January 2027. We use the latter. Account-specific insurance, voucher choices and changing lounge admission remain subject to confirmation, and the calculator is labelled provisional.

How I use this card
I have held the Platinum Charge Card since 2021, and I pay the fee myself. What follows is my own use of it, not a summary of the marketing.
I bought it for the lounges, and that is still the reason I keep it. The Global Lounge Collection is the benefit I use most, and it is the one that has held its value while other things on this card have moved. In India I have used the Amex lounges in Delhi and Mumbai; the Mumbai Centurion Lounge in Terminal 2 is closed as of 1 July 2026, which for me is a real loss on my most-flown route. Abroad, Amex operates Centurion Lounges at Sydney Terminal 1 and Melbourne Terminal 2, and I have used the Australian network. In Singapore I have mostly used non-Amex lounges in the collection, which is the part people underrate — the value is the breadth of the network, not the Centurion brand.
The Priority Pass membership that comes with the card is worth more than I expected. It is what fills the gaps where there is no Amex lounge, and it is the difference between the collection being a nice benefit and being the reason to hold the card.
The concierge is the benefit I did not expect to use and now use constantly. Booking flights, finding hotel rates, and genuinely odd requests — help sourcing a rental property, finding an auditorium, working out logistics mid-trip in an unfamiliar city. It is a 24x7 human who will take an unreasonable request seriously. That is very hard to price, which is exactly why it does not appear in the arithmetic above, and it is the single biggest reason my own answer differs from what the numbers alone suggest.
Acceptance is better than Amex's reputation in India implies — abroad. I have had no practical trouble using it in Australia, Singapore or the Middle East. Within India, acceptance is genuinely narrower than Visa or Mastercard, and that has not changed.
Where the points actually go: Marriott Bonvoy. Roughly 80% of my Membership Rewards points have gone there, and it is comfortably the best conversion I have found on this card. Amex India publishes the transfer at 100 Membership Rewards points to 100 Bonvoy points, a minimum of 300 points and in multiples of 300. Paired with the Bonvoy Gold Elite status the card carries, hotel redemption is where this card has repaid me — not the catalogue, and not statement credit. I have also put points toward Air India flights, including booking travel for family, and found the value good; I am not quoting a rate for that because Amex India does not publish the transfer ratio in a form I can verify, and this site does not print figures it cannot source.
Would I renew it? On the arithmetic above, no — the illustrative spending profiles do not cover the ₹77,880 fee including GST. I renew it anyway, because the lounges, the concierge and the Bonvoy route are worth more to me than ₹77,880 a year. That is a personal judgement about how I travel, not a recommendation. At the illustrative spending levels above, I would not renew without using the travel and service benefits. Your result can differ with eligible promotional spending and how you redeem points.
Frequently asked
Can I pay only the minimum amount due?
No. This charge card requires full payment by the statement due date. A missing revolving interest rate is not permission to carry a balance free of charge.
Do supplementary cards include free family travel insurance and guests?
No. Only one supplementary Priority Pass membership is included, accompanying Priority Pass guests are chargeable, and complimentary overseas medical cover is for the primary member only. Check each lounge and insurance certificate.
Does spending ₹20 lakh waive the renewal fee?
No published spend waiver is recorded. The voucher benefit requires paying the renewal fee and meeting the separate eligibility conditions. Its value depends on the selected brand.
Are reward values the same as cash in my bank account?
No. The ₹0.25/MR value is an assumption for comparison. Actual redemptions, charges and availability determine what your points are worth.
Can I rely on the example to predict my exact statement?
No. It estimates repeated monthly spending. Transaction rounding, merchant codes, exclusions, refunds, payment routes and dates can change the result. Promotional earning and transaction charges are not fully modelled.
