What changed
Effective 1 July 2026, HDFC Bank applies a separate monthly cap of 3,000 accelerated reward points to brand vouchers bought through SmartBuy — the GyFTR and Woohoo route.
The overall SmartBuy monthly caps have not moved. What is new is a ceiling on how much of that allowance vouchers may fill. HDFC's offer terms as they stood in April 2026 had no voucher column at all, so vouchers could previously take up a card's entire monthly cap.
| Card | Overall monthly cap | Voucher cap from 1 July |
|---|---|---|
| Infinia / Infinia Metal | 15,000 points | 3,000 points |
| Diners Club Black Metal / BizBlack Metal | 10,000 points | 3,000 points |
| Diners Club Black | 7,500 points | 3,000 points |
| Regalia / Diners Club Privilege / BizPower | 4,000 points | 3,000 points |
The voucher cap sits inside the overall cap, not on top of it. Voucher spends past 3,000 points still earn the card's base reward rate rather than nothing. Tata Neu, other HDFC credit cards, debit cards and PayZapp wallet sit at 1,000 points in both columns, so nothing changes for them in practice.
Who is affected
Three cards we cover are named. The HDFC Bank Infinia Credit Card takes the largest cut, from 15,000 voucher-eligible points to 3,000 — 80% less of the monthly cap that vouchers may fill. That is not an 80% cut to the card's SmartBuy earning: the 15,000-point overall cap is unchanged, so a holder who also books hotels, flights or trains through SmartBuy can still fill the other 12,000 with those. The sub-cap bites in full only on a holder whose SmartBuy use is vouchers and nothing else. The HDFC Bank Diners Club Black Metal Edition Credit Card goes from 10,000 to 3,000, and the HDFC Regalia Credit Card from 4,000 to 3,000. The non-metal Diners Club Black, which falls from 7,500 to 3,000, plus Infinia Metal, BizBlack Metal, Diners Club Privilege and BizPower, are variants we do not list separately. Regalia Gold is a different HDFC product and is not named in these terms.
What to do
Take the worst case — a holder with no hotel or flight bookings to backfill the cap. The voucher route then yields up to 12,000 fewer accelerated points a month on Infinia, 144,000 a year. Infinia's points redeem at ₹1 each against flights and hotels booked through SmartBuy, the card's best published redemption (how we value points), so that is up to ₹1.44 lakh a year foregone. Redeem the same points for products or statement cashback and they are worth a fraction of that, so ₹1.44 lakh is the ceiling on the loss, not the typical one.
On Diners Club Black the gap is 4,500 points a month, 54,000 a year, and its points also redeem at ₹1 on SmartBuy travel — up to ₹54,000. On Regalia it is 1,000 a month, 12,000 a year, but Regalia's points do not redeem at ₹1. The same offer terms set the SmartBuy redemption rate by card tier — ₹1 a point for Infinia and the Diners Club Black family, ₹0.50 for Regalia, Diners Club Privilege and BizPower — so the same 12,000 points are worth about ₹6,000, not ₹12,000. That tier split is why we publish HDFC Reward Points as two separate rows in our points value table. A holder with any SmartBuy travel spend recovers part of each of those figures, because the vouchers give up cap space the travel bookings can take.
Order your SmartBuy bookings deliberately, because the shared cap runs both ways. HDFC's own worked example for Infinia: ₹30,000 of brand vouchers first earns 3,000 accelerated points, after which ₹50,000 of hotel bookings earns a further 12,000 and fills the 15,000. Reverse the order and ₹50,000 of hotels earns 14,985 points, after which ₹30,000 of vouchers earns 15. Buy the vouchers early in the month, then book the travel.
Hotels, flights and trains keep their multipliers and get no sub-cap of their own, but they draw on the same monthly ceiling. HDFC Infinia vs Axis Magnus and our guide to maximising credit card reward points in India cover the routes that are left.
